Terms of Use for Anchor
Last updated: October 14, 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and the developer of Anchor ("we," "us") about using the Anchor app and its web version (together, "Anchor"). By creating an account or using Anchor, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Anchor.
Anchor is developed and operated independently, not through a registered company. How we handle your data is explained in the Privacy Policy. If you have any questions, contact anchor.theapp@gmail.com.
1. What Anchor Is
Anchor helps you keep the promises you make to yourself. You plan tasks for the day and give each one a price; if a task isn't done, its price is recorded as a penalty in a challenge — a personal or shared jar with a purpose, whose balance is later spent on what it was collected for.
Anchor never handles money. We don't collect penalties, hold balances, move money between people, or pay anything out. Penalties, payments, withdrawals, and balances in the app are records that you and the other members of a challenge keep for yourselves. Any real money changes hands outside Anchor, directly between the people involved.
This means:
- A penalty in Anchor is not a loan, a bet, or a debt that we create or enforce. Whether, how, and when anyone pays is up to the members of the challenge.
- We are not a bank, a payment service, or an escrow service, and Anchor is not an accounting system. If the amounts matter to you, keep your own records as well.
- We are not a party to arrangements between members and can't resolve disputes between them.
- Amounts converted between currencies (for example, on the Statistics tab) use public exchange rates and are approximate.
2. Who Can Use Anchor
You must be at least 13 years old to use Anchor — or older, if the law of your country sets a higher minimum age for using a service like this on your own. If you are under 18 (or under the age of majority where you live), you may use Anchor only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms for you.
3. Your Account
- Give accurate information when you sign up and keep your sign-in details safe. You are responsible for what happens in your account; if you think someone else is using it, let us know.
- An account is for one person. Don't create an account for someone else or pretend to be someone you're not.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Profile → Delete Account. Before that, the app will ask you to record payment of anything you owe in shared challenges and to transfer ownership of any shared challenge you own that other members are still active in. What happens to your data is described in the Privacy Policy. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an Anchor Pro subscription (see section 5).
4. Shared Challenges
A challenge can be shared with friends. When you take part in a shared challenge:
- Its members see each other's names, profile photos, tasks, and balance history in that challenge, as described in the Privacy Policy.
- Any member can create invite links. Anyone who opens a link can see the challenge's name, description, photo, number of members, and currency before joining, so share invites only with the people you mean to invite.
- The owner manages the challenge's settings, can close and reopen it, and, while it's active, can hand ownership over to another member. When the owner closes a challenge, any penalties members still owe in it are marked as paid, and everyone else stops being a member: they can still see the challenge's history up to that moment, but can't do anything in it. If the challenge is reopened, they can come back only through a new invite.
- You can leave a challenge once you've recorded payment of what you owe in it. Your past activity stays in its history, because the other members' balances depend on it. After you leave, you can still see the challenge's history up to that moment, and you can come back only through a new invite.
- Be fair to the other members: record your payments honestly, and don't use Anchor to pressure anyone into paying money they didn't agree to.
5. Anchor Pro
- Anchor is free to use. A free account can have one active challenge at a time (challenges you've left and closed ones don't count); Anchor Pro, a paid subscription, removes this limit. What Pro includes and its current price are shown in the app before you buy.
- Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), and their terms apply to your purchase. Payment is charged to your store account when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings, or in Anchor from Settings → Plan → Manage subscription. After you cancel, Pro stays active until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting your Anchor account does not cancel the subscription.
- A subscription belongs to the Apple ID or Google account that paid for it. Restore purchases moves an active subscription to the Anchor account you're signed in to, and it stops applying to the previous one.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own rules; we can't issue them ourselves. This doesn't affect any right to a refund or to withdraw from the purchase that you have under the law of your country.
- We may change the price of Pro or what it includes. Apple and Google notify existing subscribers of price increases in advance, as their rules require. If we remove something from Pro, we'll tell subscribers in advance.
6. Your Content
- What you add to Anchor — challenge names and descriptions, tasks, photos, and your name — remains yours. You allow us to store, process, and display it only as needed to run Anchor: for example, to show it to the members of your challenges, or to show a challenge's name, description, and photo to people who open its invite link. This permission ends when the content is deleted, except for activity that stays in shared challenges as described in the Privacy Policy.
- You are responsible for what you add. Don't add anything that is illegal, infringes someone else's rights, or is hateful, harassing, or sexually explicit, and don't add links to scams or malware.
- We may remove content that breaks these Terms.
7. Acceptable Use
When using Anchor, don't:
- break the law, or use Anchor for gambling or to collect money from people who haven't agreed to it
- harass, threaten, or deceive other people
- try to access accounts or data that aren't yours, or get around the app's limits, including those of the free plan
- disrupt or overload Anchor or its servers, for example with automated requests
- copy, resell, or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows it
8. Suspension and Changes to Anchor
You can stop using Anchor and delete your account at any time.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these Terms, or when the law requires it. Unless the law or someone's safety prevents it, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
Anchor will keep changing: we may add, change, or remove features. If we ever stop offering Anchor altogether, we'll let you know in advance whenever we can.
9. Disclaimers
We work to keep Anchor running and your data safe, but Anchor is provided "as is" and "as available." We don't promise that it will always be available or free of errors, or that it will get you the results you hope for.
Anchor is not financial, legal, medical, or psychological advice. Choose penalties you can afford, and if a challenge starts to hurt more than it helps, close it or leave it.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for money paid or owed between members of a challenge, or for disputes about it; for losses caused by other users or by services outside our control, such as Apple, Google, or your internet connection; or for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits or lost data.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for all claims related to Anchor is limited to the amount you paid for Anchor Pro in the 12 months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for intentional misconduct or gross negligence, or for death or personal injury, and nothing in them takes away your statutory rights as a consumer.
11. App Store and Google Play
If you got Anchor from the App Store:
- These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for Anchor and its content. Your license to use the app is also covered by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement.
- You may use Anchor on Apple devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the App Store Terms of Service. This license is non-transferable.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Anchor.
- If Anchor fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to Anchor.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims relating to Anchor or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that Anchor fails to conform to any legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy, or similar laws — and for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of any third-party claim that Anchor infringes their intellectual property rights.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using Anchor, such as your mobile data agreement.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and once you accept them, Apple will have the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
If you got Anchor from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply to your download and purchases.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms, for example when Anchor changes or the law requires it. We'll update the "Last updated" date above, and if a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Anchor after that, the updated Terms apply; if you don't agree with them, you can stop using Anchor and delete your account.
13. General
- These Terms don't take away any rights you have under the mandatory laws of the country where you live, including consumer protection laws.
- If a problem comes up, please write to us first — most issues can be solved by email.
- If any part of these Terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a part of these Terms right away, we don't give up the right to do so later.
- These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about Anchor. We may transfer them to whoever takes over Anchor — for example, a company set up to run it — and will tell you if that happens; your rights under these Terms stay the same.
